1 civilian killed, 5 wounded in Russian shelling, claims Ukraine

In the southern Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Odesa on Monday, five people were injured and an elderly woman died as a result of Russian shelling and missile strikes, according to Ukrainian officials.

Four workers were injured when missiles struck an administrative building and equipment in the morning at a shipyard in the Black Sea region of Odesa, according to local prosecutors.

“The attack caused a fire, which was quickly extinguished by our rescuers,” Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said in a Telegram messenger post.

Pictures that the Odesa prosecutors’ office posted online included two wrecked cars, a blast crater, and buildings with broken windows.

Roman Mrochko, head of the military administration of Kherson, announced on Telegram that an 85-year-old woman had died in heavy shelling of the front-line city during the course of the night.

“In the central district of the city, high-rise buildings and one of the social institutions were hit,” Mrochko added.

He posted a video of the attack, which included broken windows, piles of construction debris, and scorched rooms with collapsed ceilings and walls. He claimed that the attack started a fire and hurt a resident.

Later, regional governor Yuriy Malashko stated on Telegram that Russia had destroyed a social infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhia with a missile strike.

The attacks came after Russia attempted to strike Ukraine’s central, southern, and northern regions using drones. The military of Kyiv said that all 12 drones and two missiles fired against the regions of Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Dnipro were destroyed by air defences.

Russia, which began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and now controls about 20% of the country’s east and south, did not immediately respond to the strikes that occurred overnight.
