Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have won both their matches to start the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season that got underway on 31 March and occupy the top two spots.

On Thursday (6 April), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earned their first win of the season with a 81-run smashing of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It propelled them to third in the IPL standings.

Rajasthan Royals (RR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and RCB have all won a game each from two matches played and have two points.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), having played one game each, are yet to pick up their first win of the season.

List of Orange Cap and Purple Cap holders

CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad (149 runs) is the current holder of the Orange Cap. LSG’s Kyle Mayers (126) is behind him in second place, with PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan (123) right on his heels.

LSG pacer Mark Wood, who claimed a five-wicket haul against DC and took three against CSK, leads the Purple Cap standings, followed by seven bowlers on five wickets each – Varun Chakaravarthy (KKR), Rashid Khan (GT), Ravi Bishnoi (LSG), Nathan Ellis (PBKS), Yuzvendra Chahal (5), Mohammed Shami (GT), Arshdeep Singh (PBKS).

Orange Cap holder: Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK) – 149 runs

Purple Cap holder: Mark Wood (LSG) – 8 wickets
