IPL 2024 Auction: Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur placed in top bracket in 333-player shortlist
India seamers Harshal Patel and Shardul Thakur were placed in the highest price bracket of Rs 2 crore as the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council on Monday released the final list of players set to go under the hammer on 19 December in Dubai.
Besides Patel and Thakur, senior India pacer Umesh Yadav too has been slotted in the Rs 2 crore price bracket as the IPL GC trimmed the list down to 333 players from the 1,166 who had applied for this year’s mini-auction, which takes place in Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena and will be the first to take place outside India.
Patel had gone for Rs 10.75 crore in the 2022 mega auction. Thakur, meanwhile, had to everyone’s surprise been released by the Kolkata Knight Riders on IPL Retention Day (26 November) as two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders went for an overhaul.
Of the 333 in the final list, 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas players — including two from Associate nations. A maximum of 77 slots can be filled across the 10 franchise, including 30 overseas slots for which the likes of Australians Pat Cummins and Travis Head, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee will be in great demand.
