New Delhi: Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka secured her first US Open title by defeating Jessica Pegula within the final of the season’s last Grand Slam. Sabalenka won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, marking her debut US Open victory.

Sabalenka became delighted and celebrated by popping champagne within the dressing room, with the video quickly going viral on social media.

The previous year, Sabalenka became the runner-up, losing to Coco Gauff. This time, the 26-year-old made sure she went all win the title. She also gave a vote of self assurance for Pegula’s future success, conceding that the American stretched her right through the final. Previous to her final appearance, Pegula had also beaten World No. 1 Iga Swiatek within the quarterfinals.

“Oh my god. I’m speechless presently. So time and again, I thought I became so just about winning this. It became a dream of mine. In the tip, I got this gorgeous trophy… it means a lot. It became a tricky couple of weeks. I take note how not easy it be to lose within the final Jessica. You’re showing amazing tennis. I’m greater than sure you’re going to get one. Now no longer one, perchance more but let’s start with one,” Sabalenka said.

Sabalenka reflected on a tough period following some struggles last year. Brimming with pride, she expressed joy that her tough work and sacrifices had in the tip paid off.

“I take note all those not easy losses within the past year… it’s gonna sound easy but never give up for your dream. Keep dreaming and keep working tough. If you’re really working tough and you sacrifice the whole thing for your dream, you’re going to get it in the tip. I’m super comfortable with myself. I never say that,” Sabalenka added.

Sabalenka finished this season 18-1 in Grand Slam competition, losing best to teenage qualifier Mirra Andreeva at the French Open. She did now no longer play Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics.
